​Simran Sawhney is a Los Angeles based director of photography focused on character driven stories and the quiet power of what goes unspoken. A graduate of the American Film Institute's Cinematography program, she approaches visual storytelling with restraint, empathy, and a deep interest in emotional subtext.

Her work spans India and the United States, with films screening at more than a dozen international festivals. Her early short Knock premiered at BISFF, India's only Oscar qualifying festival, and went on to screen at the Goa Short Film Festival, Mumbai International Film Festival, Couch Film Festival, and Venice Shorts. Her recent film Tangled, shot on 35mm film, earned her the Best Cinematography Award at the Delhi International Film Festival and a nomination at the upcoming Jaipur International Film Festival.

Her photography on Shadows received an Honorable Mention from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Production Awards and a semifinalist spot at Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival. Most recently, her film Behind the Mask was awarded the Amazon Studios Innovation Storytelling Grant and screened at AFI FEST 2025.

Simran is also an Associate Member of the Society of Camera Operators (SOC).
